What the number from 0 to 100 means, how to read the scale and the 30-day history.

The Fear & Greed Index sums up crypto market mood in one number: 0 is extreme fear, 100 is extreme greed. alternative.me computes it from volatility, trading volume, social media, bitcoin dominance and search trends. It updates once a day.
- NowToday's value. The needle marks it on the scale; the number takes the color of its zone.
- Yesterday, a week and a month agoThe values 1, 7 and 30 days ago: whether fear or greed is growing.
- Last 30 daysOne bar per day, oldest on the left. The bar's height is the value, its color the zone. Hover a bar for the date and number.
Zones
- 0–24, extreme fear (red): the market is panicking and selling.
- 25–44, fear (orange).
- 45–55, neutral (yellow).
- 56–74, greed (light green).
- 75–100, extreme greed (green): euphoria, a higher risk of a pullback.
How to use it
The index works as a check on emotions: long-term investors often buy during fear and get careful during greed. On its own it does not predict prices; read it with the markets and the news.
