Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has expressed confidence that XRP will solidify its position as the preferred infrastructure for institutional digital asset transactions over the next five years. Speaking at the Swell event on October 28, Garlinghouse and CTO emeritus David Schwartz outlined their long-term visions for the network. While Garlinghouse focused on the corporate and institutional sector, Schwartz emphasized the potential for blockchain technology to become as ubiquitous as the internet for everyday consumers. The remarks highlight the company's dual strategy of leveraging XRP for cross-border liquidity while expanding its stablecoin offerings to meet specific regulatory and commercial needs.

Institutional Rails and Asset Strategy

According to Bitcoin.com News, Garlinghouse described XRP as the foundational technology for Ripple’s expansion into corporate treasury and prime brokerage services. He clarified that the company will prioritize XRP in scenarios where it provides a distinct advantage, specifically as a bridge asset between different currency pairs. This role is distinct from that of Ripple USD (RLUSD), a stablecoin that complements XRP by serving corridors where dollar-denominated assets are preferred. Garlinghouse noted that approximately half of RLUSD is issued on the XRP Ledger, a move that injects liquidity and transaction volume into the network. He affirmed the company's commitment to the ecosystem, stating that they will never abandon XRP, even as they recognize that some transactions are better suited to fiat or stablecoin rails.

Retail Adoption and Financial Integration

David Schwartz offered a contrasting but complementary perspective, envisioning a future where blockchain is the default layer for personal financial management. He predicted that users will rely on the technology to receive payments, manage savings, invest, and access lending and borrowing services. Schwartz compared this potential shift to the accessibility of the internet, suggesting that the underlying infrastructure will become invisible to the end user. This outlook extends his earlier comments from June regarding XRP’s applications in tokenization and decentralized finance. The discussion linked the growth of tokenized real-world assets to the broader path of retail adoption, positioning the network as a central hub for diverse financial activities.

Transaction Volume and Revenue Targets

Ripple disclosed that its products enabled more than $16 trillion in transactions during 2025. Garlinghouse noted that 99.9% of this volume still occurred on traditional banking rails, presenting a significant opportunity for migration to digital assets. He expressed a goal of moving between 1% and 3% of this activity onchain in the coming year, describing these figures as massive in absolute terms. The company also projected an annualized product revenue run rate of $900 million by the end of the year. To support these goals, Ripple has expanded its corporate cash management services, including a feature allowing eligible customers to earn returns on qualifying digital assets held in Ripple wallets, subject to specific program requirements.
